‘Abstractions of Poplar’ - solo exhibition at Poplar Union, East London
I was delighted to be selected by Paolo Fiorentini, the Creative Director & Curator of Polar Union, to hold a solo exhibition of my work at this East London arts venue.
From 18 January – 18 February 2024, my work was on display in the main exhibition area at Poplar Union.
Exhibition theme
Poplar supports an unexpectedly diverse ecosystem, from the dense, mature woodland of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park to the many waterbirds who inhabit the Limehouse Cut canal and the River Lea.
As a Poplar local, the exhibited work was a response to my encounters with Poplar’s natural world: following the winding paths of the Cemetery Park, parting the veils of spring leaves, noticing bright jewels of crocus flowers across the ground or fungi pushing their way through the leaf litter. Spending evenings watching rainy sunsets over the glistening canal; and afternoons feeling the sand-laden wind whip through my hair as I stand on the river beach at Limehouse and look across the vast waters of the Thames.
Thank you to Paolo and his fantastic colleagues (in particular Rodney Roodt, who hung my work). And thank you to everyone who came along to see my work and support the exhibition!
